The Saddest Thing

The idea behind The Saddest Thing is for people to share sad stories, drawings, photos, experiences, and other sadnesses as entertainment, and then for others to vote on how sad each Sad Thing is, with the ultimate goal of determining as a group what is The Saddest Thing.

The Saddest Thing was first conceived in 2005 as a place to collect things that were so sad and pathetic that they were funny.

The site was re-launched with all user-submitted content in 2006 (although the original writer is also a contributor). We're making the transition from the publication model - where the site owners produce the content that visitors passively read - to the new Web 2.0 application model, where the web site is merely a framework, or sandbox into which visitors can share, participate, and play.
